Many people are unsure if they are eligible to vote, especially if an individual has a criminal record.
You Can Vote
- Are an American Citizen
- Meet your state’s residency requirements (You can be homeless and still meet this requirement)
- Are 18 years old on or before Election Day (You can register to vote before you turn 18 if you are 18 by Election Day)
Who Can't Vote?
- Non-citizen, including permanent legal residents
- Some people with felony convictions. Rules will vary by state.
- Some people who are mentally incapacitated. Rules will vary by state.
